The relationship between the founder of Prince Rubber & Plastic Co., Inc., Sidney W. Prince and a Hooker Chemical engineer in Niagara Falls, NY ignited in the early 1930's with the need to develop compounds of rubber and plastic materials that could handle the corrosive nature of manufacturing chlorine and caustic soda.
Prince started to develop Panacea® Compounds, which were corrosive resistant rubber and plastic materials that could be made into the necessary parts to manufacture these chemicals. Gasketing, piping systems, flexible hose connectors and more were made with these "Cure-All" materials to the benefit of the plant's overall production.
Prince’s 80 years of advancing these materials, along with the capability of precision fabrication, has benefited Chlor-Alkali Plants worldwide with longer life, reliable cell parts and piping systems. Panacea® Advanced
Replacement Membrane Cell Gasket Systems

Molded Replacement Gaskets for Popular Chlor-Alkali Electrolyzers are advanced by Prince’s technology of using Panacea® proprietary compounds of rubber gasketing materials that increase the life of the material. Prince’s advanced methods of increasing the security of the fluoroplastic shields are done by extending the length of the shield and by sealing more of the sealing face.

Panacea® Elastomers
Prince has developed high performance elastomeric compounds that exhibit exceptional properties in the areas of chemical resistance, temperature range and compression set while being formulated without the use of materials such as certain metal salts that can be injurious to Chlor-Alkali membranes.

Fluoroplastic
Prince also can provide these high performance membrane cell gaskets with a fluoroplastic protection to extend the life of the elastomer/gasket. This is often specified on the anode side gasket which experiences more difficult chemical conditions.


Prince Advancements

  • Each Replacement Frame Gasket Type has their own individual compounds used and the advancements associated with them.
  • Prince can secure the fluoroplastic shield to the elastomer with a fluoroplastic thread which secures the shield, preventing excessive assembly labor and process problems (MGC type).
  • Prince fluoroplastic armors more compartments of the anode and cathode gaskets to provide longer life in these areas (FM21/1500 Type).
  • Prince uses a continuous fluoroplastic armoring method, which prevents the voids that are sometimes found in products that utilize other methods of armoring which would shorten gasket life (all armored types).
  • Prince has incorporated the use of an EPDM “Skin” over the fluoroplastic film that contacts the titanium anode frames which helps to prevent crevice corrosion on the titanium frame in the case of a certain anode gasket (Bitac and ML32 types).

  • Fluoroplastic Flex Hoses with Various Connecting Systems.
  • Prince fabricates fluoroplastic ( PTFE, FEP, PFA ) Anolyte, Catholyte feed hoses and depleted brine/chlorine and caustic/hydrogen discharge hoses.
  • Capabilities include - thermoforming, flaring, convoluting, and welding.
  • Size range from 1⁄2” to 6” ID.
  • End Connections can be with metal (SS, Titanium) or plastic backup flanges and metal (SS, Titanium) or plastic union nut connectors with ( 6962 special EPDM) gaskets, or with plastic tube fitting type connectors.

P-72 Styrene Co-Polymer
Membrane Piping Systems

  • P-72 Special Styrene Copolymer Thermoplastic pipe is special process piping for Electrolytic Cells in the production of Chlor-Alkali and Chlorate Chemicals. P-72 is a proprietary compound developed by Prince Rubber & Plastics Co., Inc.
  • Unique higher heat deflection temperature than CPVC or Polypropylene and in most cases can be used without FRP over wrap in Chlor-Alkali membrane cell rooms for additional savings.
  • Size range 1/2” to 18”
    Up to 36" diameter available, subject to a minimum extrusion run.



Special P-72 Double Boss Header Systems

  • Catholyte & Anolyte inlet headers, depleted brine chlorine outlet headers, caustic/hydrogen outlet headers.
  • We have developed two Double Boss Headers for use where threaded connections can easily be installed in the Double Boss.
  • This system eliminates the problem encountered trying to tap into pipe walls that are too thin to make a strong, reliable joint. The extra thickness of the Double Boss provides the wall thickness to reliably accept Nipples, Fittings, or Pipe Risers  as required.
  • P-72 Double Boss Headers with FRP overwrap provides the additional structural strength and durability when required.

Gaskets for Membrane Cell Piping Systems
Membrane cell piping gaskets need to be temperature resistant, chemical resistant and non-contaminating to ultra-pure brine and provide long sealing life. Panacea® 6962 Special EPDM and PT70 armored gaskets exhibit all of these characteristics and is used widely for hot, wet chlorine gas, ultra-pure brine, hydrogen gas, potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide and Catholyte service.

6962
For purposes of utilizing 6962 stock in Electrolytic Membrane-type Chlor-Alkali applications, 6962 is compounded without the use of Calcium or Magnesium as ingredients. These types of metals or elements are potentially injurious to fluorobased Membranes; the fact that 6962 is compounded without these ingredients, makes it a prime consideration for Gasketing in Electrolytic Membrane applications.

PT70-M
• A molded gasket that has been armored with a bonded virgin PTFE to protect the Peroxide cured EPDM.
• Gasket has two sealing rings a primary and secondary (Except the 1⁄2” size which has one sealing ring).
• Gasket has a compression lip at each bolt hole and used as a 150lb. pipe flange gasket.
• Almost universal Chemical Resistance and non-contaminating for ultra-pure applications, along with the EPDM memory giving a long sealing life.
• Available size molded gaskets 1/2” up to 24” ID
